THE THIRD DAY SONATA |
||
ANDREW HENNESSEY | ||
The Third Day Sonata is a composition in three parts for strings, ensemble, or piano and represents a fusion of; medieval, Scottish folk, classical and more contemporary styles. It was written by Andrew Hennessey, a Christian, in an attempt to pay tribute to an unknowable sacrifice that took place beyond the scope of the imagination and endurance and sensitivities of the human psyche - the brutal Crucifixion of Christ. Buried and sleeping at the centre of the Earth, on the Third day of death his Father, our Father, made him live again. PART 1, BARS 001 - 056, DAY 1, is called BABEL IN THE DARK. The Light of the World has gone out. A world without Light, full of discourse and confusion. Melodic opinions and directions change. PART 2, BARS 057 - 112, DAY 2, is called THE DEATH OF THE WORLD. Pomp and circumstance and procrastination begin to reign, but there is also a prelude to what will come tomorrow. Finally the night ends with the Dawning of the Third Day. PART 3, BARS 113 - 164, DAY 3, is called ASCENSION. The Risen Christ re-awakens and arises to Heaven, and God's right hand, gradually and temporally detaching from the bass notes that symbolize the burden of the low and immature world.

For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus unto good works,
which God hath before ordained that we should walk in them. |
